First of all, I'm just going to get it out of the way and say that the name of these cookies is probably one of the greatest I have ever heard in my life. Chocolate Earthquake Cookies. I read the name, looked at the photo, read the name again, and let out a very happy laugh. It's just too perfect. The recipe kind of reminds me of a cookie that a friend's mother made growing up, which he called "Crinkle Cookies." But CHOCOLATE EARTHQUAKE is so much more satisfying to say. In fact, it should probably be...

The first time ever I went to one of Chef Marc Murphy's restaurants it was for a party at Ditch Plains in the West Village, New York City. Upon entering, my line of vision encountered waiters passing incredible-smelling sliders, small cups of fries, and hot dogs topped with macaroni and cheese!

Just looking at the melty elbows oozing over the lip of the hot dog bun gave me a heart attack. But when I recovered from the shock, I managed to taste one of everything. Here, Chef Marc Murphy gives a little...

Google the words "national food holiday" and you will find lists upon lists citing special food celebrations for 365 days of the year—and then some. I'm not sure who designated all of these days, weeks, and months as such, but it hardly matters. I am perfectly happy to celebrate food and drink whenever I'm told to. And so, in observance of National Coffee Month, I am sharing an iced coffee-related recipe with you, dear-dear readers. But since it's the end of the work day and not the beginning, it seemed fitting that the recipe suit happy hour as well. Fortunately,...

Once upon a time I threw a dinner party for 12 friends and decided to serve roast chicken with hasselback potatoes and braised endive on the side, plus a dense chocolate-whiskey cake for dessert.

Sigh. I fondly recall it as one of my finest moments as a hostess—nevermind the fact that we didn't actually sit down to eat until 10 p.m.! The lingering visual of my two pals Courtney and Harry sneaking into the kitchen to pull second helpings of the super-moist meat from the carcass still fills me with pride. Had I known, however, about celebrity chef...

Earlier this week, while skimming through food-related news, I came across an interview on NPR with Frank Falcinelli and Frank Castronovo, who own one of my favorite Brooklyn restaurants, Frankies Spuntino. The menu at Frankies focuses on fresh, high quality ingredients and simple but well-executed Italian comfort food such as crab spaghetti or an excellent tuna salad sandwich dressed with salt, pepper, and olive oil, with pieces of arugula, tomato and red onion tucked in to complete the experience....

Last week, my friend Melissa was in town for her birthday and decided to throw an impromptu night picnic along the Hudson River. As we sat nibbling plates filled with homemade pasta, chips with pico de gallo, and slices of baguette smeared with Brie or blue cheese, talk turn inevitably to food and drink. As it happens, Melissa works for Bolete Restaurant and Inn, in Bethlehem, Pa. Run by a husband-and-wife team of two restaurant-world veterans, Bolete changes its menu constantly according to what crops...

As foodie confessions go, I am about to blurt out a big one. Are you ready? Ok, here goes: I did not LOVE Eat Pray Love, the memoir, when it came out a few years ago.

It's criminal, I know.

If you have any verbal tomatoes handy, now would be the time to launch them at my head.

All of my friends adored it. Family members regaled it. Oprah celebrated it on her show. And I saw it all happening, but I didn't take part. Maybe I was jealous that I didn't get to jaunt around the globe like author Elizabeth...
